Hubballi: Police Identify Half-Burnt Body; Investigation Underway

Hubballi: The police have successfully identified a half-burnt body discovered at an empty site (MTS Colony) in Hubballi. The deceased has been identified as Vijay Basava, a 24-year-old resident of Heggeri Maruti Nagar and a team leader in a mobile network service provider.

Police Commissioner Renuka K Sukumar, addressing reporters, mentioned that initially, the body was not identifiable, but subsequent efforts led to its recognition. Currently, investigations are being conducted in all directions, and the potential motive for the murder is yet to be determined.

Vishal Basava, the victim’s brother, shared that Vijay used to return home late at night. “I spoke to him around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and he mentioned he would be coming home. However, when I tried calling him again around 1 a.m., his phone was switched off. This morning, I discovered that a body had been found, and out of curiosity, I came to the site only to realize it was my brother,” he said.

According to police sources, the case is being investigated from various angles, with indications suggesting that a grudge may be the motive behind the murder. The victim’s Honda Dio was found parked in front of Chatni Complex, and the crime scene officers and forensic team are on-site. The police are actively reviewing nearby CCTV footage and questioning residents in the vicinity for potential clues to solve the crime.

Old Hubballi police have registered a case and so far no suspects have been taken into custody. DCP (Crime) Ravish, ACPs Vijaykumar Talwar, Ballappa Nandagavi and other senior officers rushed to the spot.
